Mobile Suit Gundam first debuted in 1979.  It was one of the first series to portray robots as war machines instead of super heroes.  Mobile Suit Gundam's became a very popular anime and later became a 3 part compliation.

After the huge success in it's early days, it is now grown to a nine set televistion series, four video games, ten movies, and a numerous amount of novels.

The saga's stories surround centuries of future history and engulf alternate worlds, they do share a single unifying element : the legendary line of fighting machine which go by the name of Gundam.
